      Trouble-shooting

This section provides a guide for trouble-shooting and simple remedies. Every possible problem, divided into categories, are associated with the symptoms, diagnostics and possible solutions.

Cross-check the tables below to review all possible faults, defects and maintenance requirements which may arise or be necessary during normal operation.

The machine doesn't work:

 SYMPTOM   DIAGNOSTICS  SOLUTION
 No Power  Check the main electricity supply  Reset power
   Check electrical connections  Repair or replace the connection
   Check the central unit power supply fuse  Replace the fuse
   Check the on/off switch and the electronic card   Replace the switch of the electronic card 
   Check the electronic control unit  Check the electronic control unit
 

 

  Machine does not heat or is not pressurised:

 SYMPTOM  DIAGNOSTICS  SOLUTION
 Heating Element (Resistor) Not Powered        Check the correct voltage of the resistor  Reset power
   If the voltage is correct, check the exact polarity on     the leads of the resistor  Replace the resistor
   Check the electrical contacts  Repair or replace the contacts
   Reset and check that the safety thermostat is powered    Replace the safety thermostat
   Make sure that the pressure switch is powered  Replace the thermostat
   Where envisaged, make sure that the power relay is powered  Replace the relay
   Incorrect boiler pressure readout (no steam)  Check the anti-vacuum system, replace as required
   Check the main water supply  Reset water
   Make sure the inlet valve is open  Open the inlet valve
   Check the self-leveling function  Replace the self-leveling probe
   Make sure that the self-leveling probe is powered and that the internal piston is not obstructed  If not, make sure that the appropriate fuse in the main control unit is working properly, otherwise replace
   Check the retainer valve  Clean the valve and replace the seal
 Too Much Water in the Boiler    Check the auto-level solenoid for leaks  Replace the auto-level solenoid.
   Check the auto-level solenoid voltage  If not working correctly, replace it. If it is working, check the auto-level probe and the control unit
   Check the manual filling valve for leaks  Replace the valve
   Check the heat exchanger for leaks  Replace the boiler
   Check the auto-level valve  Replace the self-leveling probe
 

 

No water delivery through the supply unit:

 SYMPTOM  DIAGNOSTICS  SOLUTION
 Loss of Water  Check the main water supply  Reset water
   Make sure the inlet valve is open  Open the water inlet valve
 Loss of Power in the Supply Circuit  Make sure that the 3-way solenoid is powered  
   Check the supply circuit button  Replace the main electronic card or the "dashboard" card
 Physical Blockage (caused by Deposits or Unusual)  Check gigler clamping  Check gigler clamping
   Check the 3-way solenoid support clamping  Clean or replace it
   Check the 3-way solenoid clamping  Clean or replace it
   Check the connection holes between the sprays and the pre-infusion chamber, the 3-way valve and the gigler  Clean
   Check the secondary retainer valve in the coffee circuit  Replace it
   Check the heat exchanger clamping  Clean it
   Check the doser-gigler clamping  Clean or replace it
 Pump  Make sure that pressure is correct (7-9 bar)  Replace the pump
   Check pump rotation  Release or replace it
   Make sure the motor is powered  
 

 

Inconsistent coffee delivery:

 SYMPTOM  DIAGNOSTICS  SOLUTION
 Continuous Delivery  Check the electrical connections of the doser  Clean and reconnect
     Replace the doser. If the doser causes impulses, replace the electronic control card
 Inconsistent Delivery (Long)  Make sure that the doser generates impulses  Replace the doser. If the doser causes impulses, replace the electronic card
 Inconsistent Supply (Short)  Check the expansion valve (neplax) for leaks through the supply unit during delivery  Remove, clean or replace the gasket
   Check the 3-way valve for leaks through the supply unit during delivery  Replace the 3-way solenoid
   Check the retainer valve  Clean or replace the gasket
 Too Slow  Sprays blocked  Replace them
   Coffee too light in colour  Adjust the grinding (grinder-doser)
   Gigler clogged  Clean or replace it
   Pump pressure too low  Adjust pump pressure (7-9 bar). Replace the pump
   Check the heat exchanger, the pipes and the gigler for obstructions  Change the pipes, clean the heat exchanger with acid, clean the unit, check the function of the water depurator
 Too Fast  Coffee doses too small  Adjust the coffee dose
   Grinding too large  Adjust the setting of the grinder-doser
   Pump pressure too high  Adjust pump pressure (7-9 bar). Replace the pump
 Leaks around the Filter-Holder  Check underneath the sheath of the sump  Replace it
   Check the edge of the filter  Replace it

 


Steam valve:

 SYMPTOM  DIAGNOSTICS  SOLUTION
 Loss of Steam    Check the valve casings  Clean the valves and replace the sheaths
 No Steam  Check the steam sprayers    Clean or replace them. Also see: "Machine does not heat or is not pressurised"  

 


Hot water valve:

 SYMPTOM  DIAGNOSTICS  SOLUTION
 Loss of Water (Manual)  Check the valve seals  Clean the valves and replace the seals
 Loss of Water (Automatic)    Check the solenoid voltage  
 No Water (Automatic)  Check the solenoid voltage  
 No Water - only Steam  Check the water level in the boiler    Also see: "Machine does not heat or is not pressurised" and "Water leaks" 


Wet coffee grounds (after delivery):

 SYMPTOM  DIAGNOSTICS  SOLUTION
 Delivery Water Too Cold  Check the water economy valve, if fitted  Adjust the flow using the knob. Replace it.
 Water Leaks from the Coffee Grounds in the Filter-Holder after Infusion  Check the position of the blower (Mac Cup & Program)  Fit the blower correctly
   Check the 3-way solenoid discharge  Clean or replace it
   Check the pipe routing from the sprayers to the 3-way solenoid  Clean
   Check the temperature of the unit (external 80-85 °C)  
   Check the coffee dose  Adjust the coffee dose (grinder-doser)
   Check the coffee grinding  Adjust the setting of the grinder-doser
   Check the coffee pressing  Inform the user about the correct pressure of the coffee dose
